You can watch Duel for free on Youtube. It’s been that way for many years... If you haven’t seen Duel before, you should. It’s one of the best examples of how to build suspense in a movie, and the whole thing’s basically a giant car chase. It’s a fun one.

As a child I remember thinking Duel was bad, maybe I should re-watch it. If memory serves me correct, this was a college project for Steven Spielberg.

It’s a very good movie, and it’s still played in film school classes today because of its masterful use of suspense. I don’t think it was a college project for Spielberg, but it was his first movie. It was originally made for TV, but ended up being popular enough that they went back and filmed more scenes so they could make it a full-length movie. Fun fact: due to a licensing issue (or lack thereof), several scenes from Duel were used in an episode of a Hulk TV show. Spielberg was not happy about that...

It’s fun after you’ve been watching for a while, and start to notice that maybe, just maybe, the rail iron front bumper on the Pete is there for deliberately sinister purpose... and the license plate collection may be the opposite of a normal one. Not innocent traveling mementos . Trophies.

That is one fantastic movie if you have an attention span longer than a Til Tock video.
